Outstanding Achievement in International Agriculture
Award
PURPOSE
To recognize outstanding performance of College of Agriculture faculty in promoting the globalization of research, extension, and instruction programs at Iowa State University.
RECOGNITION
The award winner (individual or team) will receive a cash prize of $500 and a plaque. Announcement of the award recipient will be made at the College of Agriculture Convocation.
ELIGIBILITY
Must be a faculty member or a team of faculty members in the College of perspectives in research, extension, and/or teaching.
CRITERIA
Nominations will be evaluated on the basis of excellence demonstrated in the following areas:
- Impact of the candidate's efforts in achieving the international dimensions of strategic plans for the univeristy and the college
- Extent to which the candidate has utilized his/her experience to globalize teaching, reserach, and extension programs at Iowa State University
- Extent to which the candidate has demonstrated excellence in the areas of teaching, reearch, and/or service while engaged in international work
- Extent to which the candidate has fostered the transfer of benefits from international activities to Iowa agriculture and rural development
- Extent to which the national and international reputation of Iowa State University has been enhanced by the activity of the candidate
PROCEDURES
Nomination should be coordinated through the office of the Department Executive Officer. The complete nomination packet should be sent to the office of the Dean, College of Agriculture (130 Curtiss Hall).
Supporting documents should include:
- Nomination letter consisting of no more than 2 pages summarizing major contributions in promoting globalization of research, extension, and instruction.
- Professional resume including description of current position and previous international assignments.
- Description of successful activities undertaken in promoting globalization in the College of Agriculture.
- No more than 3 supporting letters from colleagues and/or clients.
SPONSOR
The $500 cash award and plaque are provided through the Global Agriculture Programs office.
DEADLINE
Complete nomination packets (10 copies) must be received in the office of the David Acker (Maureen, 130 Curtiss Hall) by November 20, 2007.

International Service Awards 2006-2007
PURPOSE
To recognize ISU faculty for outstanding international service in terms of teaching, research, or administration, within the United States or abroad.
ELIGIBILITY
Any faculty member, including administrative officials with faculty rank. Former recipients of the award are not eligible.
NATURE OF THE AWARD
$2,500 one-time grant to be used to carry out an internationally-related activity.
NUMBER OF AWARDS: 2
CRITERIA
Evidence of sustained interest and involvement in international affairs; breadth of interest as a scholar-teacher, as well as an educator; sustained service to the university as a faculty member or administrator; breadth of knowledge and understanding of the objectives and functioning of Iowa State University and Iowa State University's involvement in international activities. The individual's general scholarship, experience and/or residence abroad, and foreign language skills are also considered.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SERVICE AWARD
Nominating materials should include:
- The applicant's curriculum vita, including a list of publications and other supporting materials. Previous years' nomination materials may be used if updated to reflect current activities.
- Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which must be from ISU faculty, staff, or administration. No more than three letters will be accepted.
- A statement of justification (less then 500 words).
CITATION FOR AWARDS BOOKLET
Again this year, we are asking for a 200-word citation to be part of the nomination packet. If your nominee is selected, the paragraph will be included in the printed program for the Spring, 2001 Faculty and Staff Awards ceremony. Please follow the guidelines listed below when composing the citation:
- full name of nominee, with middle initial;
- all degrees received and from which institutions (you do not need dates or locations of universities unless the reader would be confused about the university due to multiple campuses);
- year when nominee joined Iowa State and the position for which the nominee was hired (director, assistant professor, etc.);
- if applicable, most recent promotion to what position at Iowa State and year;
- specific accomplishments to support why the nominee should receive the specific award, i.e., if it is a teaching award, make sure to include in the write-up appropriate examples of teaching accomplishments; if it is an advising award, be sure to include advising accomplishments, etc.; and, any summary statement from supporting documents submitted for the nominee that address her or his qualifications for the award.
If colleges submit more than one application, the nominations should be rank ordered. No more than two applications should be submitted from each college.
