Feeding the World Seminar Series
Mark your calendars to attend the international seminar
series entitled Feeding the World: Are We Making Progress?
The first seminar, scheduled for September 22, from 12-1 p.m. in the
Ensminger Room, 1204 Kildee Hall, will feature invited speaker Dr. Greg
BeVier from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. His seminar topic
is “Agriculture Development and Livestock: What we do at the Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation.”
This seminar series is in its third consecutive year and is sponsored by the M.E. Ensminger International Chair in Animal Agriculture, Raymond and Mary Baker Chair in Global Agriculture, and the Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods. and Uncertainty is the focus of the 9th European IFSA Symposium
July 4-7, 2010, in Vienna.

FAS International Agricultural
Internship Program Opportunities in Asia
The International Agricultural Internship Program (IAIP) provides international
agricultural trade experience to senior and graduate college and university
students that have the background and interest to help our 90 overseas
offices promote U.S. agricultural interests abroad. The deadlines for
applications are November 1 for SUMMER (May-September) and March 1 for
FALL (September-December). Applications MUST be submitted online at
www.fasinternships.org/internships/application/
Young Researchers Seminar in Montpellier,
France
The French Initiative for International Agricultural Research (FI4IAR)
is organizing its first biennial seminar for young researchers working
in developed and developing countries. Entitled Exploring
Agricultural Research for the Future: A dialogue between young researchers
from the South and the North, the event will provide an
opportunity for doctoral and postdoctoral students to dialogue and to
establish links between young researchers from the North and the South.
The event will take place during the Global Conference on Agricultural
Research for Development (GCARD) scheduled for March 28 - April 1, 2010.

European Commission Launches New
Calls for Research Proposals
The European Commission has launched new calls for research
proposals in a variety of areas - all open to partnerships with countries
from outside the European Research Area, including the United States.
U.S. research institutions, universities and industry are invited to
join research proposals under the Cooperation and Capacities Programs
of the Seventh Framework Program for Research and Development (FP7).
Research areas include climate change, pollution, alternative testing
strategies for pharmaceuticals and the management of the marine environment.
Space research and security research have also been added as part of
the EC-US Agreement for Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
