ISU Team Travels to India
A team of ISU faculty/staff traveled to Bangalore, India, January 1-6, 2005, to work with the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) on a project funded by USAID/ALO. Through this $300,000 grant, ISU and UAS faculty will collaborate to devise sustainable rural development strategies and the resulting policy implications for agriculture in India. From ISU’s College of Agriculture, David Acker (Associate Dean, Academic and Global Programs), Ramesh Kanwar (Department Chair, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering), Arne Hallam (Department Chair, Economics) and Carrie Drummond (Program Assistant, Global Ag Programs) participated in needs assessment meetings with local farmers. This needs assessment will enable the ISU-UAS team to identify short- and long-term interventions for local farming communities. UAS team members will travel to ISU in late spring to work with other ISU faculty on campus. Other ISU team members include Ricardo Salvador (Department Chair, Agronomy) and Bob Jolly (Professor, Economics).
