World Food Prize
The 2006 World Food Prize International Symposium will be held October 18-20, 2006 in Des Moines. The theme of this year's symposium will be "The Green Revolution Redux: Can We Replicate the Single Greatest Period of Food Production in All Human History?" The 2006 International Symposium marks the 20th anniversary of The World Food Prize. This year's symposium is in honor of the founder of The World Food Prize and "Father of the Green Revolution," Dr. Norman E. Borlaug. The 2006 World Food Prize Laureates are Edson Lobato (Brazil), Colin McClung (United States), and Alysson Paulinelli (Brazil).

World Food Day - Monday, October 16, 2006
The unique and potentially powerful role played by hundreds of grassroots’ based movements working for a world free of hunger will be examined during the 23rd annual World Food Day teleconference which airs on Monday, October 16, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ISU will host a down link site for the teleconference at the Extension 4-H Youth Building, Room 1141. Paid Overseas Internships with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service
FAS is looking for a few outstanding senior and graduate level college and university students to work in our overseas offices to promote U.S. agricultural interests through the International Agricultural Internship Program (IAIP) for Spring 2007. The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service, one of the U.S. government foreign service agencies, places about 10 students for each semester (fall, spring and summer) with excellent analysis, marketing, writing, language and organizational skills and experience to work on international agricultural trade policy issues, commodity and market analysis and organizing trade events in our overseas offices for a 10-16 week paid internship. U.S. citizen students who are majoring in a business or science related agricultural field, i.e. Ag Econ, Econ, Finance, Business or Marketing, International Studies or Relations, Law or in a Biotechnology Program are eligible. Online registration for the fall semester closed August 18, 2006; however, the summer 2007 application deadline is January 9, 2007 and the fall 2007 application deadline is April 17, 2007.

Exchange Visitor Form for Visiting Scholars (DS-2019 Forms) - Reminder
DS-2019 (Exchange Visitor Forms for Visiting Scholars) forms no longer need to be signed by the Dean of Agriculture or by Global Agriculture Programs. They may be forwarded directly to ISS from the departments.

There and Back - Reflections of ISU World Travelers Competition
This fall, show others how meaningful your study abroad experience was for you through our contest for students who traveled abroad during the 2005 – 2006 academic year (students in the College of Ag or on College of Ag programs). Projects can be entered into the contest as a group or individual and can include film, photography, theater, poetry, writing, etc. Deadline for submissions is October 1, 2006. October 1 Deadline for Summer Group Study Abroad Programs
Planning and Approval forms for summer group study abroad programs are due October 1. This proposal must be submitted for ISU courses with an international component. September, 2006 - National Passport Month
In June, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution to support the goals and ideals of National Passport Month in September. To celebrate National Passport Month, the first 100 College of Agriculture student “first time travelers” that apply to study abroad during this academic year will receive a free passport! Student Travel Consultant (STC) Program Provides Support for Students Considering Studying Abroad
Funded through a Culture Corps grant through the International Students and Scholars Office, STC students are returned study abroad students who work with Agriculture Study Abroad to spread the news about study abroad. Speaking from first-hand experience, they are able to advise other students interested in studying abroad, are able to walk them through the process of picking a program, applying and preparing for a study abroad experience and help design promotional materials for international programs. Market Your Study Abroad Experience Workshop
On Wednesday, September 6, the Ag Study Abroad Office hosted a workshop to help returning study abroad students make the most of their international experience by applying them to the job market. Specific objectives included how to identify the useful skills gained from the study abroad experience, learning how to showcase those skills during an interview or on a resume, and to share international experiences with others. Guest speakers were Mike Gaul, ISU College of Agriculture Career Services, and a panel of industry reps including Terry Lebo, The Hamilton Group, Jill Bidwell, and Becker Underwood, Kim Heckert, Dow. Additional workshops may be offered in 2007.
