The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences welcomed visitors from Yeungnam University (South Korea), Hokkaido University (Japan), Yunnan Agricultural University (China), and China Agricultural University (China) for the Agriculture and Biodiversity Conference at Iowa State University. A total of 18 professors and students visited Iowa State University from September 16-22, 2019 to participate in the conference.
The conference theme was Honoring the Legacy of Norman Borlaug: Inspiring the Next Generation of Agricultural Professionals with activities that included 20 poster presentations between the visiting students as well as Iowa State University students with research interests in sustainable agriculture. Conference attendees also had the opportunity to visit the Iowa Capitol Building and World Food Prize Building in Des Moines, Iowa; Sukup Manufacturing in Sheffield, Iowa and the ISU Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm in Nashua, Iowa. The group also participated in Inspire Day, held on September 20, 2019 in Cresco, Iowa. The group ended their visit with an overnight stay in Minneapolis, Minnesota where they were able to visit the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and the iconic Mall of America.
This conference is hosted on a rotating basis by each participating university and came about as a result of the strong partnerships developed through faculty research exchanges and agriculture study abroad programs. Yunnan Agricultural University in China will host the 2020 conference.
