International Travel and Travel Warnings
Iowa State University recognizes that travel outside of the U.S. is often an integral part of the work of the faculty, staff and graduate students of the University.  Judgment regarding risks associated with international travel is left to each traveler.  However, Iowa State University advises that before traveling outside of the U.S., each traveler should consult the U.S. Department of State's International Travel information at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html  Departments should inform all individuals performing duties on behalf of the University (i.e., employees, volunteers, interns, students, etc.) that they are under no obligation to undertake any international travel that conflicts with U.S. Department of State advice.  Additional University policies apply to undergraduate travel (https://www.studyabroad.iastate.edu/preparing/health-safety).  Undergraduate travel to international locations under State Department warnings or alerts is strongly discouraged and is not allowed except in unusual circumstances.

John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer Volunteer Program
Named in honor of one of the pilots killed September 11, 2001 and of former Congressman Bereuter, the John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer Program (FTF) provides voluntary technical assistance to farmers, farm groups, and agribusinesses in developing and transitional countries to promote sustainable improvements in food security and agricultural processing, production, and marketing. The program relies on the expertise of volunteers from U.S. farms, land grant universities, cooperatives, private agribusinesses, and nonprofit farm organizations to respond to the local needs of host-country farmers and organizations. Volunteers, recruited from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, generally are not overseas development professionals, but rather individuals who have domestic careers, farms, and agribusinesses, or are retirees who want to participate in development efforts.
